New Update to Snapseed

New Update to Snapseed

Today, Google released the first update to Snapseed since acquiring Nik Software. Like many people I was very worried about what Google would do with the Nik products that I’d come to love and depend on. Well, today, at least as far as Snapseed is concerned, we found out. Not only did they bring Snapseed to Android (finally!) but they also added one new set of filters, called Retrolux, and completely revamped the Frames set. Retrolux is aimed at the LoFi/Hipstamatic/Instagram crowd. It’s filled with lots of texture and crazy,...

‘Tis The Season

‘Tis The Season

I’m not one of those people who plans for Christmas way back in October.  I prefer to take my holidays one at a time and in order.  Now that Thanksgiving is safely behind us I can turn my attention to Christmas.  The image below is my interpretation of The Holiday Spirit, one of peace and giving.  My thanks to Holliewood Studios at DeviantScrap for the wonderful new kit, Holly Jolly, and to Kuoma-stock at DeviantArt for the lovely model. Happy...

The Last Harvest

The Last Harvest

There are some artists who start with an idea and search for the perfect images to bring that idea to life.  I’m not one of those artists. I spend a lot of time looking through vintage image sites and when I find an image I love, I save it.  Rarely do I have an idea of what I’m going to do with it.  All I know it that it spoke to me in some way and when the time is right I’ll know exactly how to use it.   Such was the case with the image below of a potter girl that I found on one of my many trips into the vast depths...

Tumble Fish Picks

I get a little flutter of excitement in my stomach every time a new kit is released by Tumble Fish Studio because they are all magnificent!  In “My Picks”, Marsha gathered together all of her favorite images from The Library of Congress and expertly extracted and colored each one.  An incredible amout of work and love went into this kit and it shows.  This is one of my all time favorites! Click the preview below to see some stunning artwork by my fellow Creative Team...

Mantis Metamorphosis

Yesterday, on my facebook page, I posted an image of a little praying mantis that I found in my backyard and I thought you might like to see how I created it.                         I shot the image on a wooden table using only natural light.  Because he was fairly small (about 1.5 inches) I used a Nikon 105mm 2.8 VR lens to get in close and create very shallow depth of field so you wouldn’t be able to see any background detail.  Once I had the base image the real fun could...

A Boy and His Castle

A Boy and His Castle

My son rarely asks to have his picture taken, so when he called down the stairs, “Mommy, come see what I made and bring your camera!”, I was stunned.  With camera in hand I headed up to his room where he very proudly showed me the castle he had just finished and then he asked me to take his picture with it. Have you noticed that when kids are playing with toys they usually get down really close to them?  In their heads, whatever they are playing with is lifesize and they are right there in the middle of it all.  With that in...

Welcome to Dream Tree Hill!

Welcome to Dream Tree Hill!

Welcome, everyone, to my new blog!  Why did I make a new blog instead of staying with my old blog, you ask?  There are many reasons, but behind them all is the fact that I’m not the same person who started wallflowerimages.blogspot almost two years ago.   I feel that it is time to move on to the next stage of my creative journey and start giving back to the community that has been so kind and generous to me these last few years. With that in mind, I have created Dream Tree Hill.  I will be displaying my art, as I always have, but...
