New Update to Snapseed

New Update to Snapseed

Today, Google released the first update to Snapseed since acquiring Nik Software. Like many people I was very worried about what Google would do with the Nik products that I’d come to love and depend on. Well, today, at least as far as Snapseed is concerned, we found out. Not only did they bring Snapseed to Android (finally!) but they also added one new set of filters, called Retrolux, and completely revamped the Frames set. Retrolux is aimed at the LoFi/Hipstamatic/Instagram crowd. It’s filled with lots of texture and crazy,...

Mantis Metamorphosis

Yesterday, on my facebook page, I posted an image of a little praying mantis that I found in my backyard and I thought you might like to see how I created it.                         I shot the image on a wooden table using only natural light.  Because he was fairly small (about 1.5 inches) I used a Nikon 105mm 2.8 VR lens to get in close and create very shallow depth of field so you wouldn’t be able to see any background detail.  Once I had the base image the real fun could...

A Boy and His Castle

A Boy and His Castle

My son rarely asks to have his picture taken, so when he called down the stairs, “Mommy, come see what I made and bring your camera!”, I was stunned.  With camera in hand I headed up to his room where he very proudly showed me the castle he had just finished and then he asked me to take his picture with it. Have you noticed that when kids are playing with toys they usually get down really close to them?  In their heads, whatever they are playing with is lifesize and they are right there in the middle of it all.  With that in...

What Is Old Is New Again

Hi!  Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last post.  I’m sorry for being away for so long but this time of year is always really tough on me and I’ve had to take some time to regroup and find my center again.  Now that things are settling down I’m feeling much better and I’ve missed you guys.   Thanks for hanging in there with me. I’d like to share with you something fun I’ve been working on today.  A few weeks ago my trusted old printer finally gave up the ghost and after...

What Inspires You?

What Inspires You?

You never know when creative inspiration is going to hit.  I’ve tried looking for it but I don’t think it’s something you can get by force of will.  You’ll just be minding your own business one day and then BAM! there it is. I’m constantly amazed at the things that inspire me.  For instance, I fell in love with an outfit that I found at Target of all places.  It was the kind of outfit I would wear if I was really cool and I desperately wish that I was.  Luckily, I have a daughter who is really cool and I can...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I have declared 2010 to be a year of change.  This year I will be leaving my safe spot against the wall and getting out on the dance floor.  This blog is my first step. I never thought in a million years I’d have a blog.  I’m an introvert.  I don’t like to talk about myself.  I don’t like the spotlight.  It hurts my eyes.  And yet, here I am. Luckily, I won’t be talking about myself very often because this is a photography blog.  My goal is to share some of my photographs as well as some of the cool stuff...
